Cooper Parry Finance Recruitment is seeking an experienced and commercially minded Finance Business Partner to join a thriving finance team on a 12-month maternity cover contract. This role will support operational and corporate stakeholders across an engineering organisation, providing high-quality financial insight, challenge, and decision support to help deliver safe, efficient, and commercially sustainable services.

Reporting to the Finance Director, the successful candidate will act as a trusted advisor to operational leaders, helping to drive financial performance, improve forecasting accuracy, and support strategic initiatives across the business.

FINANCE BUSINESS PARTNER:

\n\n

Key Responsibilities:

\n\n
    \n\t
  • Partner with operational and departmental managers to provide financial analysis, insight, and support for business decisions.
  • \n\t
  • Support the Finance Director with strategic financial planning and commercial decision-making.
  • \n\t
  • Prepare and manage annual budgets, quarterly forecasts, and long-term financial plans.
  • \n\t
  • Deliver timely and accurate monthly management accounts and variance analysis
  • \n\t
  • Support cost control initiatives and identify opportunities for operational efficiencies and value improvement.
  • \n\t
  • Challenge assumptions and provide financial guidance on investment proposals, projects, and business cases.
  • \n\t
  • Monitor financial performance against KPIs and provide clear recommendations to stakeholders and senior leadership.
  • \n\t
  • Work closely with non-finance teams including operations, engineering, infrastructure, procurement, and project delivery.
  • \n\t
  • Support the delivery of regulatory, audit, and governance requirements within the rail industry environment.
  • \n\t
  • Assist with year-end activities and liaison with external auditors where required.
  • \n\t
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of financial processes, reporting, and systems.
  • \n\t
  • Deputise for the Finance Director where appropriate.
  • \n

YOUR BACKGROUND

\n\n

Essential

\n\n
    \n\t
  • Qualified accountant (ACCA, CIMA, ACA or equivalent).
  • \n\t
  • Proven experience in a Finance Business Partner or commercial finance role.
  • \n\t
  • Strong analytical and financial modelling skills.
  • \n\t
  • Experience supporting senior stakeholders in a complex organisation.
  • \n\t
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities.
  • \n\t
  • Advanced Excel skills and familiarity with ERP/finance systems.
  • \n\t
  • Ability to influence and challenge stakeholders constructively.
  • \n\t
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • \n

Desirable

\n\n
    \n\t
  • Experience within infrastructure, engineering or transport.
  • \n\t
  • Knowledge of project accounting and capital expenditure management.
  • \n\t
  • Experience working within regulated or safety-critical industries.
  • \n\t
  • Familiarity with Power BI or other reporting tools.
  • \n\t
  • Strong team player with excellent collaboration and communication skills.
  • \n
